Biparjoy Cyclonic
The Biparjoy Cyclonic storm hit the Gujarat coast in the Saurashtra-Kutch region at 6.30 pm on Thursday. The cyclone, which was moving at a speed of 10-15 kmph, lashed the coastal areas with wind speed of 130 kmph. The places which suffered heavy damage include the Saurashtra region of Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Surendranagar and parts of Ahmedabad.
Commercial flights will remain suspended in Gujarat’s Jamnagar even today. The airport had issued NOTAM for three days from Wednesday to Friday. Diesel and petrol required to operate the airport in case of emergency have also been stored. Air India and Star Air have also canceled their scheduled flights.
Earthmoving machines are being used to remove trees uprooted due to the storm and electric poles are also being fixed.
